17th Century Dress
I made this Louis the XIVth inspired dress as part of our corset course. It is based on a Janet Arnold pattern from Patterns of Fashion 1.

The bodice is meant to be worn without a corset, as it shapes the chest the way a corset would. It is made of 4 layers: lining, coutil, synthetic batting, and finally the fashion fabric, a polyester brocade. It is stiffened with 22 steel spiral bones.

The skirt is a separate piece, and closes up with hooks and eyes at the back.

It is missing the frilly, lacy chemise that should be worn underneath, and I have lots of lace that I would like to add to apply to the bodice and skirt, but I'm not sure I will have the time to do this any time soon...
