Viper the Orc

Photos by the amazing Melis, @meliszch

Here's  the costume I designed for a LARP in October 2023. I was an orc, and joined a group of incredible players that were completely crazy but lots of fun! The little guy on my shoulder is called Pascal and beware, he might bite you if you are not careful. Or if you mention that he is having a bad hair day. Also, I'm not quite sure where his mouth is, so caution is advised. You can compliment his top hat though, and it brings good luck to give it a tap before battle.

I made some friends. And some enemies. And had to break myself out of jail...

The costume was made mostly out of leather and fabric scraps, waste or thrifted objects. The Squig on my shoulder is a stuffed animal from my thrift shop, and the striped fabric is leftover from a tablecloth my grandmother made. The only thing that I bought specifically for the costume was the bodysuit: to avoid having to paint my whole body green, I got a flesh-toned bodysuit and dyed it green, and it is the first layer of the costume. I made the armor out of a sheet of foam from some old packaging which I covered in leather and this woven leather and metal rings structure. The armor was then attached to a harness out of leftovers scraps of veg tan leather. I made the chest piece out of an old rabbit fur I got at a yard sale, and I had this wacky idea to make a pair of shoes that look like bare feet with ugly toe nails out of swimming shoes, foam and latex. They turned out... not great. But they were fun.

Check out my instagram or tiktok for the making of videos of the neck armor, fingerless gloves and dreadlocks!

The black belt and the buckle that closes my armor come from @PeraPeris, a great source of metal objects and accessories for history geeks!

Spoiler alert! The LARP ended with a total destruction of the town, and we only got out just in time to watch it burn!
